Abel Tasman

The Abel Tasman is a coastal walk, fairly easy and it's one of the Great Walks in NZ. I took the northern route starting, starting west at the Wainui car park, along the inland track, then heading north from Totaranui. There are great beaches there, almost empty because most visitors are hiking further south (the water taxis don't go further than Totaranui). Stayed a night in the Whariwharangi hut, which is an old farm from 1898 and now used as a DOC hut. The hut itself is about 100m from the beach in the forest. There is no electricity, so I had to use the portable cooker to make my dinner and a torch to find the toilet. There are showers though (cold water). There were 6 other people staying that night. It was a bit strange knowing that nobody else is around for the next 5-6km and we were staying in such a remote place.
I slept very well that night, although there were mice, rats and possums around the house (apparently also a rat in the house).
Now I'm heading to Nelson Lakes National Park. Maybe going for a 3-day walk there...

Der Abel Tasman ist ein Walk an der Kueste entlang, relativ einfach und einer der Great Walks in NZ. Ich habe die noerdliche Teil genmacht. Am Wainui Parkplatz fings an, entlang des Inland Tracks, dann von Totaranui noerdlich entlang der Kueste. Dort gibts herrliche Straende, alle verlassen. Die meisten Leute gehen nur bis maximal Totaranui, weil die Watertaxis nicht weiterfachen.
Ich habe in der Whariwharangi Hut uebernachtet, eine alte Farm aus dem Jahr 1892. Die Huette selbst ist etwa 100m vom Strand entfernt. Es gibt dort keinen Strom, also musste ich mir mein Essen mit dem Kocher machen und mit der Taschenlampe zur Toilette finden. Aber es gibt dort eine Dusche (mit kaltem Wasser). Mit mir waren 6 andere Leute, die dort uebernachtet hatten. Es war doch schon ein wenig komisch, mittem im Nirgendwo in einer Huette zu uebernachten, wo die naechsten Leute 5-6km weit entfernt sind.
Ich habe trotzdem sehr gut geschlafen, obwohl dort einige Maeuse, Ratten und Opossums ausserhalb des Hauses rumliefen (eine Ratte angeblich sogar im Haus).
Jetzt gehts nach Nelson Lakes National Park wo ich evtl. einen 3-Tages Walk in Angriff nehme. Daher kann es sein, dass ich mich einige Tage nicht melde...
Carina und ich machen uebrigens jetzt getrennt weiter, weil wir unterschiedliche Vorstellungen hatten, und auch sehr unterschiedliche Budgets, was das ganze ein wenig problematisch machte.
